Data-driven fisheries management for the communities who depend on the sea.

Turning conservation science into practical tools for coastal fishing communities.

One workflow, start to finish

  1. ImportSpreadsheets and API feeds
  2. AssessStandard fishery indicators
  3. DecideConsultations and regulations
  4. SharePDF reports and data feeds

The process

How it works

From raw landings to an agreed management decision, in four steps that repeat each cycle.

  1. Step 1: Import data

Upload static CSV or Excel datasets, or create live connections using any API so new landings sync automatically on a schedule.

  2. Step 2: Configure an assessment

Pick sites, a time period, and indicators. FishMAT calculates each one and flags where data is thin.

  3. Step 3: Generate a report

Produce a field summary table and a full PDF report with charts and plain-language guidance.

  4. Step 4: Consult & decide

Review results with the community or management body, agree harvest strategies, and log the outcome for the next cycle.

Capabilities

What FishMAT does

Simple science, illustrated with the charts you’ll actually use.

Sample data

CPUE tracking

Follow catch per unit effort over time to see whether fish stocks are recovering or under pressure.

Sample data

Size-based indicators

See how much of the catch is mature, at optimal size, or large spawners, and spot when too many young fish are landed.

Sample data

Species composition

Understand which species make up the catch and how the mix shifts across seasons and sites.

Example

AI insights

Plain-language summaries highlight trends and what they may mean for managing your fishery.

Example

PDF reports

Reports with charts and findings, formatted to print or share with partners and colleagues.

Example

Partner data feeds

Share catch totals with partners in Excel, Google Sheets, or Power BI, without fisher names, boats, or prices.

The science

Indicators in every assessment

Choose the indicators that fit your fishery. Each one is calculated from your catch records and rated against reference points.

Abundance & fishing pressure

CPUE
Catch per fisher-day, or per hour when hours are recorded. With a year of data, the trend is adjusted for gear, fisher, and site.
Total landings
Total weight of catch landed over the period.
Reporting effort
How many fishers report catch each month, showing how representative the data is.

Size structure

Pmat (mature fish)
Share of the catch that has reached maturity and had a chance to spawn.
Popt (optimal size)
Share of the catch landed at the optimal size for yield.
Pmega (mega-spawners)
Share of large, older mega-spawners that produce the most eggs.
Average length
Catch-weighted mean length of the fish landed.

Ecosystem & fishing practices

Species composition
Mix of species in the catch, with a diversity score and alerts when species go missing.
Trophic level
Average position of the catch in the food web.
Fishing gear
Share of catch by gear type, highlighting destructive gear.

Every indicator gets a status, and FishMAT tells you when there isn’t enough data to judge. Size indicators estimate length from weight using FishBase length–weight relationships, so you don’t need to measure every fish.

Who it’s for

Built for the people managing fisheries

Whether you work at a single landing site or across a national programme, FishMAT meets you where your data is.

Community Managers

Turn local catch records into clear evidence to guide managed-access areas, no-take zones, and seasonal closures.

NGO Partners

Run consistent assessments across many sites and support communities with shared, comparable results.

Policymakers
